They say nobody walks in LA. And when I moved here from Seattle, it seemed like no one bikes here either. But then I discovered I could bike from my apartment in Glendale Junction to my job in West Hollywood in about the time it took to drive it. But I didn’t for a few months because I didn’t have a good bike anymore and just didn’t have the funds to buy a new one.

But when gas prices went crazy this spring, I knew it was time. I looked at a $1600 Specialized that was perfect for me. But I had to declare bankruptcy two years ago, so my bad credit plus no spare cash plus no credit cards added up to no bike. Which was crazy — I was trying to save gas money and improve my health, but didn’t have the $1600 needed to do that.
